Still remember the Nokia E7 smartphone ? Although the screen can be touched ( touchscreen ), the 3G mobile phone launched in 2010 was also equipped with a physical keyboard type QWERTY. The physical keyboard is hidden behind the body that holds the screen panel, and can be raised by sliding it.
In 2020, cellphones with such form factors “come back to life” with more qualified specifications. It is Astro Slide 5G Transformer, a 5G smartphone that is equipped with a physical QWERTY keyboard, made by a British technology company, Planet Computers.
Previously, Planet Computers already had two smartphones equipped with physical keyboards, namely Cosmo Communicator and Gemini PDA. However, only this time they embed 5G support on mobile phones equipped with a physical keyboard.
Mobile phone with a screen size of 6.53 inches (Full HD Plus resolution) is armed with SoC Mediatek Dimensity 1000. Astro Slide 5G Transformer equipped with 6 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and a 4,000 mAh battery that supports the rapid charging technology ( wired ) and wireless charging ( wireless ).
In the photography aspect, this smartphone relies on a camera in the front and back. The back camera has a 48 MP resolution while the front camera is only 5 MP. In terms of software , Astro Slide 5G Transformer carries a multi-boot mechanism . That is, this phone can be installed with more than one operating system (OS) at a time.
The main OS that has been running on mobile phones is Android 10, while other OSes can be of Linux type and support is said to be presented at a later date. Other features include NFC connectivity, WiFi 6, two USB Type-C ports, in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers and 3.5 mm audio jack, as compiled from AndroidCentral , Thursday (2/4/2020).
In European markets, the Astro Slide 5G Transformer will be sold at 820 Euros. But it will only be available on the market in March 2021. Interestingly, enthusiasts can order this 5G cellphone on the crowdfunding page at a special price, starting from 490 Euros.
