In early December, Qualcomm introduced its latest system-on-Chip (SoC), Snapdragon 865. This high-end chipset is the successor to the Snapdragon 855 series, introduced in 2018. Although the new Snapdragon 865 powered mobile phone will be released in 2020, the results of this “benchmark” chipset have already appeared in the virtual realm.
Based on testing using the benchmark AnTuTu version 8 application, Snapdragon 865 successfully outperformed the performance of Apple’s A13 Bionic. This test is carried out using a Qualcomm Reference Device (QRD) device or a prototype smartphone with Snapdragon 865.
The results of this test note that the Snapdragon 865 chipset is able to score an overall benchmark score with 540,000 points. This figure is higher than the Bionic A13 chipset test results embedded in the ranks of the iPhone 11 . A13 Bionic itself gets a benchmark result of 506,176 points.
In addition, Snapdragon 865 also looks far more speeding than its predecessor SoC, Snapdragon 855 which gets a score of 445,000 points.
Nevertheless, different scores are shown from the test results using the Geekbench version 5 benchmark application . Phones with Snapdragon 865 get a benchmark score of 930 points ( single-core ) and 3,445 points ( multi-core ). This figure has not been able to race the A13 Bionic on the iPhone 11 with a benchmark score of 1,329 points ( single-core ) and 3,468 points ( multi-core ).
Quoted from Phone Arena, Tuesday (12/17/2019), despite losing, the score difference does not seem so far away. That is, the performance of the flagship chipset for the Android ecosystem is now not much different than the Apple-made chipset for the iOS ecosystem.
For information, the prototype Snapdragon 865 phone used for benchmark testing itself is actually not a commercial phone. Usually have a slower speed than mobile phones made by smartphone vendors with the same chipset.
A number of smartphone vendors have also confirmed that they will soon release a cellphone with Snapdragon 865 in early 2020. Not long ago, Xiaomi had confirmed that it would bring the Mi 10 with the Snapdragon 865 chipset in the first quarter of 2020.
In addition, Oppo also confirmed that it would bring a cellphone with the flagship chipset in the same quarter, but did not mention further what the cellphone model was.
