Since it first surfaced in late 2019, the corona virus from Wuhan, China, has spread to various countries, including those in the Southeast Asian region. To assist the public in observing the spread of the deadly virus, the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) from the Department of Civil Engineering at John Hopkins University made an online map that can be accessed through a browser.

The CSSE map shows countries and cities around the world where there are suspected cases of Corona virus infection, along with cases that have been positively confirmed. The location of the Corona virus case is marked in a circle with two different colors and sizes vary depending on the confirmation status and scale.

The red circle for the region that has positive recorded cases of Corona virus infection, the yellow circle for the region where the case has not been confirmed. The size of the circle indicates the number of cases in the region.

“Visualized case data is taken from various sources, including WHO, the United States CDC, China CDC (CCDC), NHC, and Dingxiangyuan,” wrote Lauren Gardner of CSSE in a blog post announcing this map.

Dingxiangyuan is a site that aggregates reports from the NGC ( National Health Commission, China ), as well as the China CDC ( Center for Disease Control and Prevention ), and is therefore used as the basis of reports on maps for the Bamboo Curtain country.

Case data in the United States (confirmed and suspected) came from the CDC, while the rest of the world data was taken from WHO. Map of the spread of corona viruses made by CSSE can be seen in the following link.

CSSE states that the interactive map is updated daily and is real-time. From the observation, Friday (1/24/2020), the data displayed may not always be up-to-date, depending on the time of the last update The number of Corona virus positive infections up to this morning has reached 844 cases with 25 dead victims.

Meanwhile, data on CSSE maps still show positive infections 653 cases with 18 deaths, for the latest update on January 23, 2020 at 12.00 PST. Then, according to the map, in Malaysia there were still four cases of suspected corona virus infection.

In the latest development a few hours ago, the Malaysian Ministry of Health has stated that the four cases were not corona virus infections. Therefore, maps from CSSE may be best viewed as a tool to monitor the spread of the corona virus worldwide, not as an absolute reference.

The corona virus from Wuhan itself is a new type of corona virus family that was officially named as Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) by WHO. The virus is still related to the Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome virus (MERS-CoV) and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV) virus that attacks the respiratory tract and causes pneumonia (lung infection).

Transmission is suspected to occur directly between humans, possibly through body fluids that are spread in the air after the sufferer coughs or sneezes.

Because it has been positively detected up to Singapore, the Indonesian Ministry of Health has been prepared by preparing a thermal scanner at 135 national entrances, to detect the body temperature of people who are likely to have corona virus infection.

In the latest development, Corona virus novels have been detected in 10 countries, namely China, Macau (mainland China, special administrative regions), Thailand, Japan, the United States, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, South Korea, and Vietnam.
