In collaboration with mobile operators from South Korea, SK Telecom, Samsung to launch a new smartphone, the Galaxy A Quantum. The phone is actually a Galaxy A71 5G which was renamed and got additional hardware.
Additional hardware embedded in this phone is a QRNG ( quantum random number generator ) security chip SKT IDQ S2Q000. As the name implies, the chip can be relied upon to secure sensitive data that is on the cellphone through the encryption process so that it is more difficult to hack.
This encryption process relies on quantum cryptographic technology made by ID Quantique (IDQ). IDQ is a subsidiary of SK Telecom with a focus on cryptographic solutions based in Switzerland.
SKT IDQ S2Q00 is the smallest QRNG chipset in the world with dimensions of 2.5mm x 2.5mm. This chipset can create truly random numbers with unpredictable patterns. This QRNG chipset can improve the security of various financial applications in South Korea such as SK Pay, T ID login, and Initial.
In South Korea, the T ID application is used to log in to various online services. This service is used by more than 19 million customers. While Initial is a blockchain service that is used to issue and send various personal certifications.
SK Telecom itself from the beginning planned to expand the use of QRNG chipsets and increase security for more services in the future. Apart from security features, the specifications of the Galaxy A Quantum are indeed identical to the Galaxy A71 5G. The System-on- Chip (SoC) that is carried is the Exynos 980 and is combined with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory.
