WhatsApp Most Popular in 2019, TikTok Exceeds Facebook

WhatsApp is the most popular application, or the most downloaded throughout 2019. This was revealed from the research results of the Research Tower application research firm in the report “Store Intelligence Data Digest: 2019 Year in Review”.

However, the survey also revealed that the number of downloads of TikTok video applications made by ByteDance from China has exceeded Facebook , Instagram and Messenger applications. Based on the Sensor Tower survey, TikTok has been downloaded more than 700 million times during 2019.

This achievement automatically places TikTok right on top of Mark Zuckerberg’s various startup applications, such as Messenger, Facebook and Instagram.

Even so, WhatsApp, which incidentally is under the Facebook umbrella as well, still dominates with 850 million downloads in the same period. It is interesting to see the TikTok application is increasingly favored by users around the world.

In fact, if you look back, the application made by Facebook is arguably the “occupant” top position in the list of the most downloaded applications. In 2016 and 2017, for example, the four Facebook applications mentioned earlier still occupy the top four positions.

However, in 2018, TikTok began to show his nose in the list of the most downloaded applications by snatching fourth position. TikTok was only able to overtake the number of Instagram application downloads, as compiled from SensorTower, Thursday (1/16/2020).

In other words, within one year, TikTok overtook two large applications such as Facebook and Messenger. It should be noted, Sensor Tower itself calculates this download number based on the number of downloads of related applications in the App Store app store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android) from 1 January to 31 December 2019.

The TikTok application, which was downloaded through a third-party application store outside the two platforms, or the TikTok application that is pre-loaded on the cellphone, was not included in the Sensor Tower research.
